This course will explore the Single Assessment Framework – quality statement for the EFFECTIVE key question – Monitoring and improving outcomes. We will look at the key elements of how to define, write, measure and analyse outcomes. We will also look how to use outcomes data to drive continuous improvement
Outcomes refer to the impacts and end results of services on people who use care services. Outcomes are not services or resources. Outcome based commissioning became fashionable in the 1990’s and yet over 30 years later care providers and their staff have not fully embedded outcomes into the process of meeting peoples needs and preferences. Outcomes are often written in a way which is vague, unmeasurable or even about what the care service wants not what the person wants. None of these approaches are consistent with the regulations about person centred care the ethos of which is to put people at the heart of their care and treatment.
Outcomes if written well provide a tremendous opportunity for care providers to use the data to analyse the effectiveness of their care provision and embed continuous improvement into practice.
